I’ve seen more sales in the stores near me over the last months, some were pitched as “post Christmas” or “end winter” sales and some didn’t really have a theme.
I’ve also seen a few businesses, ones that I’d already thought of as marginal, having closing down sales.

There’s a weird store on the corner of of Singel and Lijnbaanssteeg that used to sell just paintings and now sells all sorts of weird stuff – but I think this is the weirdest.
And no, I didn’t ask the price.

In HEMA they have a selection of cheap reading glasses , they’re displayed according to how strong the glasses are. Below the display is a jumble of discarded glasses, as if the people returning them couldn’t see where to replace them.

I spotted these cows in a souvenir shop on the Dam. We bought a tacky salt and pepper set in the form of a Dutch kissing couple for some friends getting married.
No the photo is not upside down, the cows really are on the ceiling.

I also love chutney, and I had just bought the Mrs H. S Ball’s tomato chutney on the left at Eichholtz when three South African guys turned up at my side. Big guys, grew up eating braai and playing rugby.
