Queen’s Day celebrations go on all over the Netherlands, but the centre of Amsterdam is probably the busiest. This year there were about 350,000 visitors to the city (Amsterdam’s population is about 750,000), which was considered low due to the unseasonably cold weather. Given that there will be no public transport for the whole day, the only way to see other parts of the city would be to walk there. Walking through extreme crowds isn’t my idea of fun so I took these pictures on Friday night, showing the big stage set up on Museumplein complete with orange crowns, that’s the Rijksmuseum in the background.
There would have been thousands on this park for the concert, and there was a small group of pay toilets at the back of the Van Gogh museum, and there were also traditional Dutch snacks available.
