The flag and schoolbag hung outside a house indicate that a child in the house has passed their exams. You see it around this time of the year, which is when school finishes, and occasionally later in the year when university finishes.

I’ve seen a few of these around the local area, congratulations to all the students!

  1. Ah, so that’s what that means.

I quite often see those cut out cartoon characters (Miffy or similiar) outside houses in Brabant to symbolise that a baby has just arrived. Do they do that in Amsterdam?

  2. Yes, I’ve seen pictures of storks, the name of the baby in cute letters and all sorts of things. Haven’t seen one for a while though.
