Happy Birthday Homomonument

It’s twenty years since the homomonument on Keizergracht, near the Westerkerk, opened. The monument is based on the pink triangle, but includes three smaller trianges inside one large one. The design is simple but meaningful and today there was a commemoration to mark it.There was a big marquee set up, decorated with flags, balloons and confetti. The monument is used during the official memorial service, where emphasis is usually place on the fullest meaning of freedom – as shown in this short documentary on youtube (sorry, Dutch only). But the area is also used in a fun way for things like the drag queen Olympics, where the handbag toss is a featured event.
