Fireworks Ban?

Not everyone loves the fireworks display on New Year’s Eve, and there are some negative effects. Every year there are accidents where people and property are burnt, and some of the street parties do get out of hand.

There is now a petition to stop fireworks – allowing only public controlled displays but not private sales.

It has already reached the 40,000 signatures needed to force a discussion in parliament – the sponsors of the petition thought it would take a lot longer.

If you want to add your signature it’s very easy

Add your name where you see “naam”, add the city you live in where you see “plaats” and your email address in the field where you see “e-mailadres”. If you don’t want your name to be visible on the website then uncheck the box. Click on the “onderteken!” button.

You will then receive an email to confirm your signature – click on the link in the email.

If you like the fireworks and think they should stay, well there’s a petition for that as well under the heading “Vuurwerk moet blijven” (fireworks must stay).
