|I noticed these flowers next to the memorial plaque on the Westerkerk a couple of weeks ago, but have only just researched the story behind it.
The memorial plaque reads “Willy Alberti, 1926-1985, our Amsterdam Neopolitan Tenor”
Willy Alberti was born Carel Verbrugge, but became a very popular singer after the second world war, singing in Italian or Dutch, both with a very romantic style. In the sixties he also performed with his daughter Willeke and had a regular show on Dutch TV.
