With the traditional neck gable and the scale of the windows this building looks like the old monument buildings in the neighbourhood.
But looks are deceptive, there’s a plaque saying “The first stone was laid by Nick ten Herkel grandson of Wietje. Feb 95” I don’t know who Wietje is, but clearly he’s someone who in 1995 was pretty famous, so after much searching I think it’s probably Wietje Poetiray, who was a singer originally with his brothers and later with various bands. |
So this apparently old building is less than 20 years old.Not all new buildings stick to old styles, but by building it in exactly the same style as the neighbouring buildings the historic centre continues to look historic. | ![]() |
