Sunday Opera

intermission

Random New Yorkers enjoying their intermission at the Met.

I spent most of Sunday watching Opera at the Met, yes the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Through the wonders of modern technology, well HD film I got to see a superb performance of Der Rosenkavalier.

Between the acts we were treated to behind-the-scenes snippets and interviews with the singers by Placido Domingo. I’m a bit ambivalent about this, it detracted a little from the sense of being at a real performance, I was amused at the shot of the real intermission at the met which was screened, shown above.

There are more operas to come around the Netherlands, the schedule is available in Dutch, and you can reserve tickets online but the theatre wasn’t full so I’m not sure that it’s necessary.
