Amsterdammertje

The metal pillars between the road and the footpath here are known as “Amsterdammertjes” and there are also smaller chocolate ones, you can buy as a souvenir. Apparently the Hilton Schiphol uses them as part of their turn down services much to the alarm of some guests. There are fewer of them now than in previous years, the streets are gradually being altered so have a raised kerb and no Amsterdammertjes – which are now being sold off by the city council. However there are still more than 35,000 so this guy still has plenty to do.
